A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style
and displayed in a reverse chronological order. In November 2006 there were more
than 57 million blogs online and that number was growing rapidly.
Blogging often provides commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food,
politics, or local news while many function as more personal online diaries. A
typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and
other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in
an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are
primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), sketchblog,
videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting) are all now integrated within blogs.
There are several types of blogs including those comprising mainly videos ...
vlog, links...linklog, portfolio of sketches...sketchblog
or photos...photoblog. There are also blogs with shorter posts and mixed media
types called tumblelogs. Some blogs focus on a particular
subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs or
legal blogs.
There are several blog search engines that can be used to search blog contents.
These include blogdigger, Feedster, and Technorati.
Technorati provides current information on both popular searches and tags used
to categorize blog postings.
The following articles present a well rounded discussion on the
