There are many different treatments that you can use if you do start experiencing any of these problems with your roses with traditional treatment being the most common.

Traditional treatment includes spraying any vulnerable roses with garden sulfur fungicide as directed on the label during their dominant period in early spring. You also want to make sure that you check the growing tips and check all the young leaves for any signs of fungal disease. This is particularly important when temperatures hit the mid 60s and when rainfall is especially sparse.

The problem of powdery mildew is one which is usually only severe in coastal areas that have moderate temperatures. It shows itself as a white or gray powdery coating that appears on rose leaves, buds and canes. Typically the disease will start on the young leaves and causes them to curl up which eventually exposing the lower surfaces.

As long as you are aware of all the different problems with roses as well as how to take care of each problem you should have no long term troubles and your roses should be able to live for an incredibly long time.
