Roses - When To Plant Roses

When to plant roses is probably the most important thing you need to know before planning a rose garden. When it comes to the planting and maintaining of a flower such as a rose there are many different things that you need to take into consideration. This is because roses themselves are very different from any other type of flower so you need to make sure that you understand certain things about roses before you go to plant them.

Understanding when to plant roses is one of great importance because planting the roses at the wrong time is going to be incredibly detrimental to their success overall. It is essential that you understand when to plant roses in your area.

When it comes to the issue of when to plant roses you should know that the answer is actually going to largely depend on where you live and the climate of the location.

Exactly when to plant roses may depend on certain factors such as upon whether you buy bareroot dormant bushes or potted plants that are already growing or maybe even in plants that are in bloom.

You want to plant dormant bushes early in the season before trees and shrubs leaf out in the spring or at least by early May. Make sure that you do not plant growing potted roses that were started in a greenhouse until the danger of severe frost is past, most often late May or early June.

The way that you plant your roses is really going to determine their survival rate. What you want to do is dig a hole that is wide enough to hold the entire root system of either potted or bareroot plants without crowding and deep enough so that the graft is 1-2 inches below the soil surface.

The next step is to make sure that you place each plant carefully in position putting loose friable soil around the roots and firm around the bottoms with your hands. You also need to make sure that they get lots of sunlight and that you water them well.

When to plant roses can be tricky but as long as you take all of this information into consideration and do a litle research on your own you should have really great results.
