The history of solar power goes back more than one hundred years. Research
and discussions about using this type of energy become more frequent and focused
as time went on. In the days of high gas prices and even higher home energy
prices many people started considering the use of alternative energies rather
than imported oil.
The sources of imported oil were and still are located in unstable parts of the
world where turmoil could quickly cut off the supplies at any time. The lack of
supplies would certainly make living and working very difficult. It is largely
based on this mentality that solar power research proceeded to advance.
Solar power is one type of energy that is considered more and more, partly
because of the tax incentives sometimes available for using this type of energy.
Energy derived from solar power is used more often as well because the costs can
be substantially less than the traditional sources of energy depending on your
individual lifestyle and usage.
The history of solar power starts with a French mathematician more than one
hundred years ago.
The quest for alternative sources of energy began when a scientist thought that
there should be an alternative to coal. The driving force was the thought that
the coal reserves would be used up and the population would be left without the
necessary energy to continue with day to day life. Other scientists soon joined
the research into the viability of solar power being a relatively inexpensive
and reliable energy source. The first comercial experiments of note were by a
solar power company started in 1900.
The evolution of solar power continues today with significant discoveries and
experimentation happening all of the time. As development continues the public
support for the use of solar power still lags the great potential it holds for
the future. As I am sure you would guess the interest in solar power increases
when there is the threat or incidence of disruption in other sources of energy
and lags when supplies are plentiful and inexpensive.
There is hope on the horizon though, more interest in the use of solar energy is
starting to sprout in both the public and private sectors. Solar panels are seen
more often than ever before especially in more rural open type areas. The use of
solar is not only effective but can provide a substantial savings in the long
run for those that use this type of energy.
