Vegetable Gardening -  Growing Vertical Vegetable Gardens

Vertical vegetable gardens are a good option if you have ever wanted to grow a vegetable garden but you simply don’t have the space available. This type of garden can provide you with the same amount of fresh produce but will take up much less space.

If you don’t know how vertical vegetable gardens work you aren’t alone. Even though they are very easy to create they aren’t seen very often and are no longer as popular as they once were. You start by creating what looks like a shelf unit – one shelf holding a certain variety of plants and then the next shelf above holding different plants. You will end up with a series of boxes that are on shelves one above the other. These can go up as high as you can reach. Some even put them well above their heads and use ladders and step stools to reach.

There are many advantages to having vertical vegetable gardens. First of all, as long as you are using planters or dirt boxes that are deep enough on each level there is no limit to the amount of food that can be grown this way. As long as you have the proper soil, watering system and the right amount of sunlight, vertical vegetable gardens can yield exactly the same amount of food as if they were planted on the ground. You will be able to plant much more produce in a small amount of space using this method.

Another advantage is that you can position the vertical vegetable garden so that all of the plants get the sunlight at the same time. There is no need to have a garden built around what plants get the most of the sunlight. This type garden is also very easy to water because the excess water that you give to the top levels trickles down to the bottom levels and so on. Vertical vegetable gardens have the potential to produce large yields because nothing is ever left out or forgotten about.

The best advantage to vertical vegetable gardens is simply that you won’t be using up near as much space as you would normally have to be using. You will find that your space usage is much less because you simply don’t have to spread your garden out over all of your yard.
